New LMMS DAW alpha release

In the world of music production there’s a long list of DAWs (Digital audio workstation). Of course with each DAW you get different features and for the most you have to pay top dollar. 

For those beat makers and developing producers sometimes the cost can be a little much. Especially while some are in the learning phase. This is where open source software comes into play. 

What is open source software? Open source software (OSS) is software with publicly available source code, allowing anyone to use, modify, and distribute it freely. This model promotes collaboration and transparency in software development.

That means this is software made by the people and meant to be free for the people to use. If you’re a programmer and want to make a contribution code wise, you can do that as well. 

We don’t have any screenshots for this report, however the old version of LMMS has been used by team members here. It has similarities to FL Producer (Fruity Loops. For many using the LMMS software it’s second nature, but free. 

After 5 years of development LMMS has finally released 1.3.0-Alpha.2. If you used the last version of LMMS you are aware of some of the features that weren’t there. You’re also aware of some bugs in that version. Here in the Alpha release those items have been fixed and new features added. There’s a very long list of those bug fixes and updates so we won’t list them here, however you can view the entire list of fixes and updates at www.lmms.io 

One very cool thing about this software is that it’s available for Windows, Linux and MacOS. So no matter the OS platform, you can use this software. 

We’ll be installing the new software on a machine and giving it a run. After we’ve put it through the paces we’ll be back to give you a follow up of our own experience with the new software.  Note, if you’ve every seen our ads running on social media outlets, the music featured in those video ads were created using the old version of LMMS.
