The Filta Freqz consisting of Simon Cortez and Marco Manrique. Their body of works is so big it would take quite some time to review it all, but I’ve got a nice selection for you. On the release “Best Of Filta Freqz” they have a track titled “Eos Theory” and just caught my ear immediately.
Simon and Marco have managed to sample Whitney Houston in such a way that just moves the track forward.
It’s smooth. Not loud. Lounge and social music, but with a soul.
There’s the right amount of bounce in the melody to dance, but head nods and two steps are accepted.
The production does the sample justice. The progress was timed well. Each layer of the build lends itself to the next phase. The keys at the end of the measures tied each section together nicely. I’m talking from a beat maker perspective, but even as just a listener, the timing was on point and not going over kill with the sample.
